Welcome To Envision2045 Long Range Transportation Plan
The 2045 Transportation Plan is multi-modal in scope, encompassing long-range plans for highway, public transportation, and bicycle/pedestrian networks. Regional growth, economic development, and accessibility within the study area along with environmental concerns necessitate that the long-range plan addresses not only improved vehicular travel but also improvements to other modes of transportation such as bicycling and walking. Preservation of the existing transportation system coupled with enhancement of all modal choices will contribute to the improvement of the overall quality of life in the region.

Elements of Envision2045
One of the most important aspects of any plan is that it can be implemented. Dozens of factors affect a highway plan's implementation —growth rates and land use patterns, physical and topographic features of the land, impacts on the urban and natural environments, public involvement, politics, and funding. Click HERE for the Highway Section of the Plan.
TransitPublic transit plays an increasingly important role in meeting the travel and mobility needs of the Mobile Urban Area. Fixed route and demand response ridership has increased over the past several years. It is important to address the role that public transportation plays in the transportation network and mobility. The goal of public transportation is to enable citizens of the area to move safely, efficiently, and economically within the community. Click HERE for the Transit Section of the Plan.

The bicycle and pedestrian component presents plans, policies, and programs which will contribute to an integrated, intermodal transportation system and facilitate the movement of people. Bicycle and pedestrian transportation are economically efficient and environmentally sound, reduce noise and the consumption of fuel, produce no air pollution, improve the overall health of the user, and do not damage the roadway. Click HERE for the Bike/Ped Chapter of the Plan.
Congestion/SafetyCongestion and Safety are important issues when developing the long range plan for an area. There are different types of congestion to be considered: area-wide; corridor; or specific location. The type of congestion is a deciding factor in which type of strategies to apply. FreightFreight planning historically, at least for medium sized MPOs like Mobile, has used data analysis, including employment numbers and trend forecasting, that assumes trends from the past will continue in the future. Recognizing that the efficient movement of freight is vital to the growth of Mobile’s economy, and further recognizing that our area must provide for superior freight distribution and not become a freight chokepoint. Our section on freight tries to predict truck movement in Mobile on the road network using computer-generated, travel demand simulation modeling. Click HERE for the Freight Section of the Plan.

Climate Change Climate Change is a summary of a much larger document prepared by the USDOT specifically using the Mobile MPO as a pilot, with the intention of making the processes used in the study replicable to other areas. USDOT conducted Phase 2 in partnership with the Mobile Metropolitan Planning Organization, which is part of the South Alabama Regional Planning Commission (SARPC).
